mitt romney is releasing a new ad ahead of the presidential debates. as we talked about earlier this debate will center around the economy and this is an obvious appeal to the middle class. >> more americans live in poverty than when president obama took office. we should measure our compassion by how many of our fellow americans are able to get good-paying jobs. not by how many are on welfare. >> according to romney, 47% of americans are on welfare or dependent on the government. he has taken criticism since that video was leaked. bullpen paul ryan is saying that was inaccurate. ryan might not agree on the number romney used, but disagree on the principle. a video from november of last year, ryan is saying 70% of people want the american dream but 30% just want a welfare state. >> the obama camp is crying foul to a video newly posted of obama in 2007 talking to a black crowd about the bush administration's failed response to hurricane katrina. republicans are highly critical saying it shows the president appealing to racial solidarity. they are toutin

it will only be romney's first. the memo is actually quite praising of the president calling him one of the most talented political communicators in modern history. meyer says they're fully expecting a 90-minute attack aimed at tearing romney down. mr. obama's traveling press secretary is joking about the whole attempt to lower expectations saying well, he could just fall right off the stage. the president is up in basically all of the most recent polls. gallup has him at 50 to 44%. reuters has him up by 7 and even fox news has him up by 5. even some top romney officials are admitting he's a lousy candidate! according to politico this morning, republicans even some of those working for romney say the real problem is not the polls or the gaffes or the leaked 47% remark, it's just mitt romney. they say he's a great businessman but when it comes to leading a political campaign, he is just, plain unnatural. and planned parenthood is stepping up its attacks against the romney campaign. this week, voters in virginia are g

ohio yesterday rockin' and rollin' with two presidential candidates both mitt romney on his second day in ohio. president obama going out to ohio. where he now has the president a 10-point lead over mitt romney. no republican presidential -- i know you've heard that a thousand times worth repeating no republican presidential candidate has ever won the presidency without winning ohio. and without winning ohio, it would be very, very tough for mitt romney to get where he's gotta get in terms of electoral votes. so you're going to continue to see both candidates focus on ohio. president obama has done so. his rescue of the auto industry has helped him a lot in ohio. he was at bowling green university yesterday. introduced by a student who was scheduled to introduce the president. then went out and played ultimate frisbee yesterday morning and broke his wrist. >> what is ultimate frisbee exactly? >> bill: haven't you seen it? >> you don't know what alternate frisbee is. >> i know what frisbee golf is. is that alternate frisbee? >> yeah, yeah. >> bill: i've seen it. >> okay, i know what it

can turn all of this around with the first presidential debate. has that happened in the past? what do you think? >> yeah, if you look historically -- i saw a statistic this morning that george bush was eight or nine points down going into his first debate with al gore. so i think in the past you had seen these are big moments for the campaign a chance for both candidates to stand on the same stage and be evaluated by the voters. if you listen to what they have been saying there was a report last week that mitt romney did five mock debates in a 48-hour period. he is a practiced debater. he did 20 debates during the primaries. he brags that he won 16 of them. so they see this as a big moment. so we're going to be prepared and i think he'll come in ready to fight and ready to try to make a change in the dynamic of this race. >> bill: i saw a report this morning where some of your colleagues are worried that because the president has so many presidential duties that he may not have adequate time to prepare for the debates. >> sure. the president has

let's talk about the romney lies as promised, here is fact checking from last night's presidential debate. starting out, romney's claim that he would not raise any taxes on middle class americans. the first problem with this is that it is just the latest in a series of flip-flops. first he promises tax cuts across the board then he says don't expect any big tax breaks because he's also getting rid of deductions. now he says he will fight for middle class tax relief. as the president pointed out last night romney plans on paying for tax cuts by closing loopholes but he still will not say which ones and even if he does close them, that still doesn't pay for his $5 trillion worth of tax cuts. that means he would basically have to get rid of middle class deductions which effectively raises middle class rates. next up, healthcare. yep. romney really made a death panel reference, referring to the independent payment advisory board which does have the power to force medicare cuts. but it is explicitly prohibited from rationing care or restricting benefits so no, it's not a death panel. romney sa
